Dear Apple: Please Fix This

According to the Social Security Administration the first name “Josiah” is in the top 100 of boys names (and has been since ’08). For 2015 it ranked #56 – and climbing in popularity.

In stark contrast, the last name “Seiyu” doesn’t really register at all (outside of east Asia, anyway). When offers to tell you how common it is, it simply replies with

Seiyu is a very rare last name.
Very few last names in the US are “Seiyu.”
Be proud of your unique last name!

Considering the last names of “Ives” is ranked #4,070, Schiller is #4,466 and “Jobs” is #56,479, it’s hard to say this is just a limitation of the database. (Granted, I’m not going to bring up Jony, Craig, or Angela here…)

Maybe we should expand our search a bit and see what we find on…

Twitter (mostly questions about incorrect renderings)

Facebook  (mostly incorrect renderings and other mysteries)

YouTube (nope)

Switchboard (noBAHdy)

We could go on, but after a while you begin to question if the “Joe Seiyu’s” you do see are real – or just more misinterpretations by Apple’s OSes.

So, Apple, whadya say? Can we say “Josiah” and please get “Josiah”?

(Barbara Streisand would approve.)

Thank you!
